Following are supplies you can use to start your baby birds. We have chosen the best from several different manufacturers.
It is best to ship the equipment and starter feed at least one week in advance of your birds to ensure the equipment arrives and is set up when the babies arrive.
If these are mailed at the same time as the babies, the babies will probably arrive a day or two before any regular boxes as live animals take priority at
the post office. We can include the Brooder Thermometer, Poult Pak or five pounds of Waterfowl Starter Feed with your duckling or gosling order.
The remaining supplies cannot be included in the chick box with the babies.
If this is your first time raising ducklings or goslings, we recommend you look through our collection of Books.
Many of these will make an excellent reference as you raise your birds.
GroGel Bird Starter
The greatest nutritional needs of newly hatched birds are water, carbohydrates and protein. We have found a product, GroGel, that has been especially formulated to meet these needs. It also aids their immune and gastrointestinal systems. We will prepare it, place it in a Dixie cup, and attach it to the inside of the box so your birds can eat it during their journey to your home. When your birds arrive, normally all that is left is an empty trough and green droppings. GroGel is a super hydrating gel (sort of like ground up jello) that is bright green to attract the birds and will hold the nutrients and moisture until consumed. Providing GroGel is an excellent way to give your birds a healthy start and helps protect them if there is any delay along the way.
Happy Hen Treats
Watch your ducks dance and peck in a frenzy for these 100% natural, whole-dried mealworms. Feed it straight from your hand, scatter it on the ground, or put it in their feeder for a treat. Dried mealworms offer ducks the taste they love without the inconvenience of storing and handling live mealworms.
The 3.5 ounce resealable bag contains about 3,250 mealworms, and the large resealable 10 ounce tub contains over 10,000 dried mealworms!
Not only are they a special treat for your ducks, but they are also nutritious, with over 49% protein and 27% fat.

Our choice of vitamin packs. Besides vitamins, it also contains large amounts of electrolytes and trace minerals. It is wise to use for young or stressed birds - especially if they are moved, their feed is changed, they have been ill or something else has stressed them. One pack is sufficient for 128 gallons of water or 500 pounds of feed. If kept dry, it can be used a little at a time. One half teaspoon is sufficient for 3 gallons of water.

Waterfowl Starter Feed
For those of you that have difficulty finding waterfowl starter feed locally, we offer small bags of the same feed that has been especially formulated for our ducks and geese. A duckling will eat about .5 pounds the first week, and a gosling, about .8 pounds. Be aware that this will add substantially to your postage expense.
