Cayuga Ducks

Their feather color is very similar to the Black East Indie but records indicate the Cayuga was developed before the Black East Indie. Both have a very brilliant "beetle" green sheen to their feathers. This is especially evident on the head of the male. As they age, however, Cayuga become almost all white after several years. This changing of colors occurs much quicker in females than males. In addition, their black legs turn more orangish in color as they age.

I ordered hatching Cayuga eggs [3/5] survived. The ducks that survived were healthy and now showing beautiful, vibriant colors. They are not skiddish at all, one will let me hold them and waits to be the last duck in the coop at night. I pick her up for some pets before ushering her in with the others. Very pleased!

January 7, 2022 | One of my favorites

This was my first time ordering ducklings, and I was so nervous. When the ducklings arrived, all were healthy except this little girl. I didn't think she would make it. Metzer immediately contacted me back after I sent them a worried email, and gave me tips on what was wrong and how to help her, and offered a replacement if she did not recover. She had just gotten a little stressed in shipment and immediately bounced back after I got her rehydrated. She grew up to be a gorgeous, wonderful duck! She just started laying today, a pretty green grey egg. I'm excited to see all the color changes her eggs will go through during the season. She is my most active forager of all five breeds I ordered. She loves water the most too, and keeps her feathers in really good condition. Despite being so good at taking care of herself, she is still a friendly duck. Her feathers have such a gorgeous sheen in the sunlight. I really love this breed, and I also really appreciate what great customer service and compassion Metzer showed when this girl first arrived in the mail.

Our Cayugas are amazing. They are just big and beautiful ducks. One of my ladies is almost 1.5 years old and she is sporting some beautiful white plumage amongst the beetle green! So pretty! Thank you, Metzer Farms, for beautiful and healthy ducks!

We've had our Cayuga ducks since last April. We couldn't be more pleased. We got three females and their personalities are so distinct!! They've been laying since about 5 months old. At the same time, we got 3 Silver Appleyards. They have been giving us 5 - 6 eggs per day (Central Florida). They get along so well. We purchased 3 Saxony and 3 Welsh Harlequin in November and were worried about the big girls picking on the little ones. Quite the opposite. The little ones are terrorists and the big girls steer clear. They went down to 2 total eggs a day, until we separated them and they became more calm and went back to 5 - 6 eggs/day. They are so much fun to interact with. They let themselves into the duck house at night and will actually like a hug or two (peas help)

I have the Cayuga and mallards, love both but the Cayuga is more relaxed and will fall asleep in your lap anytime. Very friendly.

Received a phone call this morning from the post office telling me my ducks were here. I had 10 ducks in all and they were all perfect. I am so so glad to have found Metzerfarms. Will be ordering from them from now on. Thank you so much.

I ordered 2 females, 1 drake, and received 2 drakes and 1 female otherwise they're amazing and I adore them....I'm honestly struggling to find more females though and paid way too much for shipping to ever rehome one of my drakes nor would I ever want to rehome any of them, they're my babies!

August 20, 2022 | Arrived safe, sound, and healthy!

These chicks came in happy and healthy. They are very vocal and I'm sure the post office was happy that I came to pick them up right away. Got my 3 girls home and into their new accommodations and they are doing well! The back of the packing slip has a very good guide to raising ducklings for beginners, so don't throw it away! Very excited to see the babies grow up into beautiful birds, and introduce them to my 3 adult Khaki Campbells. Thank you Metzer Farms!

October 23, 2022 | Ordered 15 ducks - 6 month review

Ordered 15 ducks. 6 white layers, 4 Cayuga, 3 Golden, 2 Chocolate runners. All arrived healthy and happy, I was shocked. I didn't think all 15 would survive shipping and their new life in Michigan but they did. They are all doing great 6 months later. They arrived late April. Kept them in the pole barn with a heat lamp for the first month. Slowly introduced them to my existing 5 ducks - 1 KC drake, 2 Swedish ladies, and 2 Runner mixes. Can't believe how big they all are compared to my other 5. All of them started laying at 5 months old except the 2 cayuga ladies. One of the Cayuga ladies is definitely wanting to be a mom. Camera in the coop shows her gathering the eggs the other ladies lay and sitting on them. I say the Cayugas haven't layed yet - but I just haven't seen any darker eggs yet like they say Cayugas lay at first. The Chocolate Runners are tiny at 6 months old compared to the others, and I suspect they are the ones laying tiny little eggs, about 1/4 the size of the others. Anyway, all the ducks ordered from Metzer arrived healthy, and are doing great 6 months later!!!

I received my Cayuga Ivy in November of 2021. She is the sweetest duck ever. She is absolutely gorgeous and is the most helpful duck ever. She helps the chicks and her duck sisters stay clean and is just the perfect best friend. The Cayuga duck is a must have in my opinion.

I am abt to expand my flock. I have a female Cayuga, she came from Metzer. She is fierce, loving hardy and a great egg layer. She's loves riadtrips and swam at many national forests the last 5 years. She's now waiting for the 2 Cayuga drake ducklings from them. Couldn't be happier and absolutely love the breed.

Black from head to toes, they are so cute and different from all other ducks I have ever seen. 4 weeks later, they seem happy and healthy and they get along with the other ducklings and goslings.

Our 10 year old wanted Ducks for his birthday, he researched and after a lot of hours he finally decided to get Cayuga, we received his 10 babies today and he was so excited, they are so sweet and friendly. Metzer Farms knows how to ship ducklings! They came to us packaged perfect and healthy and happy. The ducklings are Absolut beautiful and we are in total love with the girls already. Their feet are HUGE and just adorable! We are awaiting out next little batch this week! So happy with our new babies! We named on Green Bean :) She has a green bean lol on her beak.

My two Cayuga girls are beautiful! They are about to turn 9 weeks old and have really grown into their feathering! They were happy and healthy when they arrived. I would highly recommend this breed and metzer!

December 4, 2023 | My heart will never recover from the loss of my darling black duck

I didn't realize that a temperament score of 8.8 should have meant that she wasn't that friendly. I've found it to be the opposite as she was my best and smartest duck and my crested a close second. She would come up to me and ask for worms and was my favorite duck. She was different to all the others, a true intelligence in her eyes. She just died after a vicious raccoon attack and I nursed her for 2 months, using all my knowledge from the burn ICU and as a medical professional trying to save her. She wouldn't have lasted had she not also wanted to try and survive to stay with her crested friend and be with her people. I am devastated beyond words. I have had ducks for 7 years and never had a bird as special as my Cayuga. I don't know if they are all as smart and people oriented as she was but she was the best duck. She didn't tolerate heat, which was a problem in Utah. I won't replace her with another as a result. If I ever move to the Pacific NW, I will get many of these wonderful birds. They are perfection.

When my Cayuga duckling arrived happy and healthy in the mail, she was an immediate favorite. I ordered her with several other ducklings, but she was by far the biggest, healthiest duck we had. I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of her grey-black eggs! would definitely order again.
