White Layer Ducks

The White Layer has equal egg production to Golden 300 Hybrid Layer Ducks. The only minor difference between it and the Golden 300 Hybrid is that the White Layer lays fewer bluish colored eggs. All the progeny of the White Layer are white.

For us, the White Layer is a calm bird, much like the Buff, Cayuga, and Blue Swedish. However, we have had reports from some (not all) customers that they are a very nervous bird, much like the Khaki Campbell. We cannot explain why some flocks are calm and some are nervous. Our guess is that at some point they were panicked enough that they were permanently traumatized and spent the rest of their lives nervous. We don't know when ducks are most sensitive to this trauma nor why it happens to some flocks and not others.

November 2, 2020 | The best of Pekin ducks minus the leg and hip problems

White Layers are one of the best duck breeds i have ever had: They are as goofy and laid-back as Pekin ducks, but without the leg and hip problems that the heavy Pekins will develop later in their life.Excellent egg layers, expect one huge white egg per duck on over 350 days per year, only during the fall molt have my girls stopped to lay for a couple of days.

December 28, 2020 | Amazing White Layers!

We purchased 3 hybrid white layer ducklings in spring 2018. They arrived happy and healthy! They started to lay in the fall of 2018, and two of them laid an egg almost every day for a year and a half. I've never seen any poultry lay like this! They live outside all year, with an insulated dog house in a 3 1/2-sided shelter, well-bedded with hay. We only put them into the chicken house when temperatures drop to single digits, and they'd rather be outside. And they keep laying no matter the weather. We use the eggs for almost everything. We love our ducks!

July 10, 2022 | Very pretty!

I ordered one for egg production (and received one as a filler on a resend), and while she isnt laying yet, I am very happy with her! She is beautiful, quite friendly, and tolerates being held very well. The "filler" duckling is extremely friendly, and even at just 3 weeks old is demanding attention and snuggles. A+ experience, wonderful customer service and babies.

September 5, 2022 | They hatched out their own ducklings!!!

I have owned the White Layers for over 5 years and have lost a few to coyotes over that time. This is the first time one of them hatched out their own ducklings! I know the information says they are fair at rearing their own, but I just didn't think they were patient enough to hatch any out...at least they have not in the past. I am very happy with these ducks.

October 23, 2022 | 6 white layers ordered - 6 month review

Ordered 15 ducks. 6 white layers, 4 Cayuga, 3 Golden, 2 Chocolate runners. All arrived healthy and happy, I was shocked. I didn't think all 15 would survive shipping and their new life in Michigan but they did. They are all doing great 6 months later. They arrived late April. Kept them in the pole barn with a heat lamp for the first month. Slowly introduced them to my existing 5 ducks - 1 KC drake, 2 Swedish ladies, and 2 Runner mixes. Can't believe how big they all are compared to my other 5. All of them started laying at 5 months old except the 2 cayuga ladies. One of the Cayuga ladies is definitely wanting to be a mom. Camera in the coop shows her gathering the eggs the other ladies lay and sitting on them. I say the Cayugas haven't layed yet - but I just haven't seen any darker eggs yet like they say Cayugas lay at first. The Chocolate Runners are tiny at 6 months old compared to the others, and I suspect they are the ones laying tiny little eggs, about 1/4 the size of the others. Anyway, all the ducks ordered from Metzer arrived healthy, and are doing great 6 months later!!! Dont know if its the Goldens or the White layers, but a few of the ladies are laying some monster eggs. I feel sorry for their rear end.

Post office called me at 5 am to pick up my 20 babies! 4 weeks later, they seem happy and healthy and they get along with the other ducklings and goslings. They follow me around the BIG back yard wherever I go!

June 26, 2023 | Love our duck!

My order of one White Layer and one Welsh Harlequin arrived about a month and a half ago now, and we are obsessed! They arrived healthy and chirping away. These are the first ducks we've owned, so we weren't 100% sure what to expect, but these girls are SO friendly, inquisitive, and cuddly. The White Layer is the calmest of the two, and is very tolerant of being picked up and held. The Welsh Harlequin is still a little more wary of being picked up and held, but once her feet are on a solid surface she is peachy keen. Both LOVE laying in our laps while we are watching TV and getting chest and beak pets and are content to stay there for hours if we let them. It has been a joy watching them grow up and letting them explore the garden for insect and leafy green treats. Thank you Metzer!

August 10, 2023 | My laying/pet hens lived 6 years

I just lost the last of my small female white layer flock that I purchased from Metzer Farms 6 years ago. In memory and gratitude to them I am leaving this review of info that I wld find useful when choosing duck breeds. I am/ was very pleased with this breed. They were friendly in they liked to be around people but kept their distance. They do not all look the same, some were larger than others, some had pink bills and some orange, also as they aged the black in their bills showed through the orange in different patterns. They lay eggs for the first 5 years, this last year I did not get eggs. I lost a couple to predators over the years (rat, raccoon, fox, coyote, neighbors dog), but these last older hens died on their own. I had to put one down at a vet as she had tumors in her ovaries. I am purchasing my new flock right now. Thank you Metzer farms.

I ordered two white layer ducks in June of 2023, and they started laying eggs at 18 weeks of age. They have been laying eggs almost every day all winter long. They have very funny, quirky personalities that keep me entertained. I highly- recommend these ducks because they are reliable egg layers during the months that my chickens slow down their production. I love these ducks!
