African Geese

In northern climates, it is recommended the African geese be provided shelter as their knobs have a tendency to become frostbitten if not given sufficient protection from the cold. If the knob is frostbit, spots may turn orange but then the knob returns to black once the tissue is completely healed the following year. African geese are similar to Chinese geese in that they are a bit noisier than other breeds. They are a beautiful goose and are very active foragers. They are good egg producers with above average fertility. There are two recognized breeds of colored geese from China, the African and Brown Chinese Geese. Our African are midsized between these two and are a very common goose. If you want the larger, show-type African goose with a pronounced dewlap, you want our Super African Geese.

Got my 4 babies 6 weeks ago and I could not be could not be happier. Got 3 females and a male and they were properly sexed. All healthy and the sweetest little critters around. Feathering in nicely at this point and are larger than my ducks already. LOVE IT!!

October 27, 2022 | Feathered Dogs

This was my wife and I first year of raising geese and we like them more than our chickens. We purchased afew for guard geese and they have impresses me. We had an owl steak out our chicken flock till the geese sounded the alarm and rounded the chickens up into their house and stood guard at the door way till we shut them up for the night. They act just like dogs, they'll greet you and have different personalities. Highly recommend but they are very talkative, but that's what we was looking for in a guard animal.

I just received my shipment of babies this morning and all I can say is I'm extremely happy with it. My baby gosling is beautiful, she is alive and chirping. She is doing amazing. Thank you so much and I will definitely be ordering again.

May 16, 2023 | Very sweet, loving, fantastic guardians for your flocks

I absolutely adore them, and would recommend African geese to anyone who wants a gentle guardian for their flocks. They definitely have a loud honk, my gander does not have a mute button and that's why we got them. My neighbors can hear my geese 1/2 a mile away if they're getting food or water changes. These geese are loyal to the bone. In our instance we were able to raise them in a brooder inside our home so they think we are part of their flock.

We bought 1 female on May 8th and got 3 more on May 30th (3 of 5 mixed goslings) We have had geese for years on our pond and you have the best prices and availability. Buttercup is starting to get her feathers and is almost 1/2 grown. She is very healthy and there is nothing cuter than watching the babies chase after their human flock with their little wings flapping. Would definitely buy from Metzer's in the future!

I absolutely love my baby geese that I ordered from you guys. They arrived so healthy and so alert and I was very surprised considering they traveled all the way across the country. I ordered a male and a female goose and they are just the sweetest. They already act like I am their mama and they follow me everywhere I go. They have definitely bonded to my husband and I. We are currently raising them in our gardening shed in a large kitty pool with a heat lamp and pine shavings. They were in fantastic condition. They are just the sweetest. And I can tell they will be very vocal and protective when they get older. That is exactly what we were looking for to help protect our flock of ducks. I am so in love with them. It is ridiculous. They are the cutest things I've ever seen in my life and I named them Montrose and Gina. Thank you so much Metzer farms for sending me these little love bugs that I cannot picture my life without at this point. I will continue to order my birds through you guys forever and ever and ever. June 21, 2023 | Beautiful Babies!

Today my two babies arrived. I never fell in love faster. Maya and Chloe are just the sweetest little munchkins. They arrived healthy and happy. I ordered them on Monday and they arrived on Wednesday. They traveled a long way. I am all the way in NJ. I am so glad we got geese. Once they are older they will meet the rest of my gang. Sheep, goats, guinea hens and chickens. They will love their lives on our 3 acre property where they'll roam around all day. Thank you to Metzer farms for these two beautiful girls. We couldn't be happier.

July 27, 2023 | Please get one!

I was so on the fence about getting a goose. Actually, I swore I would never get one. But after researching I decided if it would keep out ducks and chickens safe I was open to the idea. I had already ordered two ducklings form Metzer's and they got me... They sent out an email before our ducks hatched and explained how easy it was to add to our order. So, I knew it was our chance. Our little girl, Silly, is everyone's favorite! She is so funny (or silly), so affectionate and definitely does her job in bossing the family dogs around or alerting us to danger. They were peeping like crazy before the box was even open! They look very healthy and were bright and alert on arrival, they're about 3 months old now doing great and already tower over my ducks.

September 22, 2023 | African and Chinese geese

Oh my heart! Our African and Chinese geese are the sweetest you could imagine. They are so loving and full of joy. They are more like a dog as they come when you call them and they thrive on affection. We spoiled them of course. They love cucumbers and gladly eat out of your hand.

November 23, 2023 | Amazing gosling!

I purchased 10 ducklings and 2 goslings that were hatched on Sept 11 and arrived on Sept 14. Unfortunately one of the goslings arrived looking very sickly and couldn't hardly stand or walk very well. Three days later this gosling passed away. However, the remaining ducklings and gosling have thrived incredibly. Margaret, the African Goose, has already become a protector of the flock. One of my mature Guinea fowl got loose and landed in the pen with the ducks and Margaret. When I arrived in the morning I found the ducks nestled peacefully in the corner with Margaret pacing in the middle separating the Guinea. Margaret loves to talk and also loves snuggles with my fiance and myself. She's absolutely amazing! I will be purchasing more ducklings and goslings.

So far, its been a week. She is doing amazing and is like a mother goose to the ducklings. I can't wait to see her grow up! She is very sweet.
