Getting Ready for Your Ducklings and Goslings: Other Items to Consider

Friday, November 10, 2017
Welcome back to our series of posts to help you get ready BEFORE your ducklings and goslings arrive!

Listed below are items that are not necessary, but are good things to have on hand for when your ducklings and goslings arrive home.

METZER FARMS VITAMETZ POUTRY PACK & ELECTROLYTES

When your ducklings and goslings arrive, they may have undergone a rough trip. Our very own VitaMetz Waterfowl Boost is an excellent way to start your ducklings off on the right foot. VitaMetz is a comprehensive blend of vitamins, electrolytes, trace minerals, and beneficial bacteria specially formulated for ducks and other waterfowl. It's the ultimate nutritional boost in a convenient, easy-to-administer package, designed to support waterfowl of all ages during times of stress and aid in quick recovery.

Pedialyte is also an excellent alternative as it is designed to provide not only the necessary vitamins and minerals but also the necessary sugars and electrolytes. Do not worry about the amount as they can't have too much if you mix it correctly.
Sugar is also an excellent item to have on hand. If you do not have VitaMetz or Pedialyte in your cabinet, sugar can help revive your birds from the stress of travel. Sugar mixed in your duckling's water can really help in terms of reviving your depleted ducklings from a tough transit. If you decide to give them sugar, please try to keep it to a minimum. We suggest about 1/4 cup or less to a quart of water and please only give sugar right after your ducklings arrive.

HARDBOILED CHICKEN EGG

A chopped up, hard boiled chicken egg can also do the trick to help your ducklings get up to speed after they arrive home from the post office. Boil a chicken egg, let it cool, chop it up, and then sprinkle it on top of the ducklings' Chick Starter feed. The vitamins and minerals in the yolk is what they really need. Chicken eggs are just fine and if you have a duck egg on hand, even better!
