Metzer Farms has a new duck on the market. We have added Black Muscovies to our product offerings. We've always had the White Muscovy variation but we just started hatching the Black and we are excited to introduce this new color to the product mix.

Black is the native color of wild Muscovy originally found in the swamps and rivers of Brazil. Over time the commercial birds being raised for meat have been bred to be white just like chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, pheasants, etc. so they dress cleaner.

The progeny of the Black Muscovy we produce are not 100% black. They are generally black, and in good light, you can see a glossy greenish hue on their backs. We imported breeding stock from Grimaud Freres of France to produce their R41 strain of Black Muscovy.

We do not sex our Black Muscovy. They come as straight run only. Don't be surprised to see that these ducklings are not entirely black. As ducklings, some have yellow on their heads and necks and some can even appear a little brown in color. The ducklings we sell as Black Muscovy are 65% - 100% black feathered.

Frequently customers ask us: "What duck breed do you suggest for me?" The answer to this question is difficult and it is also quite personal. Everyone is looking for something different in their flock. Some people are interested in high egg production. Some people want to gaze at a colorful array of birds while others are indifferent to color and just want birds that are calm and friendly. What is important to one person might not be important to another. The answer can vary drastically from person to person.
