Happy Flock-tober! 🦆🍂
Happy Flock-tober! 🦆🍂Metzer Farms October 2026 Newsletter
Happy October from Metzer Farms! 🎃 Things are getting a little quacky and spooky around here as we head into Halloween. Between cooler weather, returning favorites, a few flock updates, and some Halloween fun, we’ve got plenty to share this month. No tricks, just treats for you and your flock!
Have you ever noticed your ducks laying like clockwork, then suddenly having a day when egg production drops? It may not be random. Ducks have an incredible biological response to light that helps control when they lay, when they take a break, and even how an entire flock can begin to synchronize their laying cycles.
In our latest blog, we’re breaking down the science behind light, hormones, clutches, and the mysterious “clutch drop,” plus what a sudden change in your flock’s laying pattern could be telling you. If you’ve ever wondered why egg production seems to follow a rhythm, this one’s worth a read.
Goose season is getting closer! Availability for our 2027 goslings will officially open Monday, November 9, 2026, which means it’s almost time to start planning next year’s flock. Whether you’ve been waiting to add geese for the first time or already know exactly which breeds you’re hoping for, November is the time to start making those plans.
Some breeds and hatch dates can fill up quickly, so be sure to keep an eye on your inbox and our website for the official announcement. We’ll have all the details you need to explore available breeds and start planning for goslings in 2027.
Get ready. Things are about to get a little louder around here!
Last Call for the 2027 Catalog Photo Contest! 📸🦆
There’s still time to get your flock into the 2027 Metzer Farms Catalog! Our annual Catalog Photo Contest is open through October 18, and we want to see your favorite waterfowl moments from the year.
From beautiful flock photos to muddy adventures, big personalities, funny moments, and memories with your family, we love seeing life with your birds through your eyes. Multiple entries are welcome, so don’t be afraid to send us all your favorites!
Share your photos on Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok by tagging @MetzerFarms and using #MetzerFarms2027, or submit them through the Breed Photo Upload section of your Metzer Farms account.
Our winning photos will be featured in the 2027 Catalog, with a $100 Metzer Farms Gift Certificate for First Place and a $50 Gift Certificate for Second Place. Winners can also choose to have their prize donated to a charity of their choice.
Submissions close October 18, and winners will be announced November 2. Get those photos in before it’s too late! 📸
The photos above were submissions from our winner of the 2026 Photo Contest, Brianna Grace Ford. They were all so precious, it was extremely difficult to choose just one!
Think spring is the only time to start or grow your flock? Think again! Fall can actually be a great time to welcome new ducklings, and our Egg Layer Assortment makes it even more fun.
Instead of choosing just one breed, you’ll receive a surprise mix composed of our choice of the highest producing duck egg layers! It could include Golden 300 Hybrids, White Layers, and Khaki Campbells. You could recieve one breed or several! It’s an easy way to add some variety to your backyard, enjoy a mix of personalities, and look forward to a colorful, busy egg basket as your flock grows.
Starting ducklings in the fall also gives them plenty of time to grow and mature through the cooler months, putting them in a great position as the longer days of spring arrive. So while everyone else is thinking pumpkins and falling leaves, you could be getting a head start on next year’s laying flock. 🍂🐥
